Eu consider ca in plimbarile de outdoor este foarte bune sa inbinam si utilul cu placutul, tehnologia cu scoala veche; ma gandesc ca nu este rau sa stii cum se afla punctele cardinale dupa: muschi de pomi, dupa soare, dupa inelele pomilor taiati, crengile din pomi s.a.m.d. dar e bine sa ai la tine si o busola, un gadget pe care sa fie busola indiferent ca e ceas, gps, telefon, tableta si cu ce altceva mai vreti sa calatoriti/plimbati ... asa ca ma dupa achizitionarea unui telefon cu android am inceput ca tot omu sa caut aplicatii (cred ca gasiti si pe Iphone aplicatiile astea modificate ca titlu, structura dar ideea ramane) , dupa urmatoarele cuvinte de cautare (fiecare cu boala lui, iti iei telefon si cauti cutit pe el - sa tai slanina ;))))) : knife, survival, bushcraft, steel ... banuiti ca stiti peste ce am dat:

Sunt satul, m-am saturat sa merg pe vai la munte si sa vad ramasitele unei civilizatii manelistice, imbuibate de gratare si bere fara a-si mai gasi punga de gunoi inainte de plecare.

Voi acesti nesimtiti care va credeti schmecheri pentru ca aveti masini si puteti merge la un gratar si sa beti bere nu uitati ca cei 7 ani de acasa nu o sa-i mai recuperati niciodata asa ca veti ramane tot timpul niste NESIMTITI!
Sper sa nu va intalnesc la iesirile mele ca o sa aparteti la stirile de la ora 17.00 de pe Protv, batuti sub titlul: "si-a luat bataie ca nu si-a strans gunoiul dupa un gratar si un dement cu protectia mediului s-a enervat" (oricum sper sa nu fiu numai eu dementul sa fie mai multi).

Cat de greu e sa iei o punga de gunoi si sa strangi ... ???

Pentru cei care aveti aceasi parere cu mine cred ca e necesar sa facem ceva ...
O sa postez niste fotografii de pe o vale, pe care am vizitat-o lunea dupa un weekend cu vreme frumoasa, deci perfect pentru gratare, nu cred ca o sa va vina sa credeti ce lasa lumea in urma lor.
Colac peste pupaza primaria satului caruia apartine zona iti ia o taxa de campare de 5 lei, dar nu se chinuie sa stranga nimic.

Aspecte pozititve:
* lama serata
* pentru un briceag pare destul de bine costruit si solid
* grip bun pe maner ajuta foarte mult manerul ca e de plastic
* pentru cei ce doriti puteti sa ii puneti snur (mie nu imi prea place)
* clip prindere pantaloni

Aspecte negative:
* plasticul folosit la maner da aspect de cutit ieftin, care nu a fost finisat 100%, am spus ca da aspect doar ca daca te uiti in detaliu cutitul este frumos lucrat
- daca poti spune asa la un cutit de serie
* taisul, la o folosire zilnica nu m-a tinut mai mult de 2 - 3 zile
* clipsul de prindere este destul de moale si dupa 3 saptamani mi s-a marit distanta dintre el si maner (am actionat in sensul ca i-am desfacut surubul pentru a-l strange, l-am strans dar problema este ca nu mai merge surbul inapoi doarece era in plastic si s-a stricat filetul din plastic)

Concluzie:
Eu am luat cutitul pentru day - by - day use si deocamdata sunt multumit de el - mai povestim peste cateva luni despre el.

27.06.2011: Pe zi ce trece tot mai dezamagit sunt de acest briceag ...

Another One - Big oNe 21 cm

Un amic si-a luat o lama Leuku de 21 cm, otel carbon si m-a rugat sa ii fac un maner, ce sa zici? nu merge sa zici nu, asa ca hai la treaba si uite ce a iesit.

Interesant la acesta este ca are 'atitudine de maceta', latimea lamei, lungimea si greutatea il recomanda pentru asa ceva.

Sincer nu sunt fan cutite mari, vorba femeilor, mai bine mici si functionale (sau cred ca e vorba barbatilor subdimensionati, oricum asta este pentru alt tip de discutie) oricum fiecare isi cumpara ce nu are ... :))) ... 'ai prins-o?'(Dem Radulescu, 'B.D. La munte si la mare')

Are si teca pe masura ... asa ca e numa bun de mers outdoor ... grija mare - arma alba si s-ar putea sa aveti probleme daca va jucati cu ea in public.

Oricum o sa incerc sa fac un post pe blog cu cutitele care intra in categoria arme albe, nu de alta dar e bine de stiut.

Sheath for my knife - Teaca cutit 12

Am incercat sa fac o teaca un pic mai elaborata la cutitul de 12, cu ceea ce am vazut pe afara, teaca a iesit destul de bine cu toate ca este un pic cam mare(ca dimensiuni)

Am facut un buzunar in care se poate pune amnarul(am unul dreptunghiular cu bara de magneziu) sau se poate baga orice ajutor de aprins focul.

Pot sa pun si amnarul clasic pe curelusa de prindere la curea, i-am lasat special un lacas pe diametrul amanrului clasic(stick)

La curelusele de prindere pe curea le-am pus capse astfel incat sa nu mai fiu nevoit sa dau cureaua de la pantaloni pentru a prinde teaca.

V-am spus ca am facut doua cutite deodata, unul de 9,5 si altul de 7,5 cm (lungimea lamei).

'poza asta e facuta inainte sa stea in ulei ... daca o descarcati si mai luati si de mai jos alta ati putea vedea diferentele inainte si dupa experiment ....

Cel de 9,5 este cutitul ideal pentru mine, nici prea lung pentru cioplit si nici prea scurt ... Asa ca nu puteam sa stau 6 saptamani fara el pentru un experiment asa ca l-am folosit cobai pe cel de 7,5 ...

Mi-a spus cineva ca ar fi bine sa il pun coada la cutite in ulei cel putin 6 saptamani sa se imbibe foarte bine uleiul in lemn ...
nu prea credeam dar am zis ca merita incercat ...
asa ca fratiorul cel mic a stat in ulei 6 saptamani ... ceea ce a iesit vorba lui 'Vintila' foarte m-a mirat, lemnul folosit era un lemn de visin uscat vreo 3 ani primit de la un unchi, cand puneai initial ulei pe el sugea ca sugativa, dupa o spatamana de stat in ulei am observat o schimbare majora a culorii in sensul ca s-a inchis culoarea foarte mult. Apoi nici o modificare, timp pana la terminarea experimentului.
La final, a stat undeva la o saptamana la uscat ...

inca nu i-am facut o teca pentru el dar va veni si vremea lui ... asa ca folosim una mai veche ... nu prea aratoasa dar merge

Concluzie de final:
- schimbat culoare, scos in evidenta toate nervurile din lemn
- imbibare cu ulei foarte buna, acum in momentul in care il bagi in apa, 'fuge' apa de pe el
- am folosit ulei de in - initial are un pic de miros dar dupa cateva zile dispare
- fiind posesor de Helle Eggen(maner din mesteacan) m-am uitat comparativ la cele doua manere si nu vad mare diferenta, oricum stiam ca si cei de la Helle au acest procedeu de imbibare a manerului cu ulei dar nu stiam ca da asa roade ...

Selfmade Handle - Lauri Carbon de 12 cm - Maner din lemn de nuc

Daca tot m-am pornit pe facut manere nu am avut ce face si le-am mai facut un frate la cel de 7,5, si la cel de 9,5 ... asa ca am mai gasit timp si pentru unul de 12 ...
zis si facut dar cum sa fie manereul asta era intrebarea ....

Asa ca m-am tot interesat de unde sa iau eu un lemn care arata mai bine si intr-o zi imi aduc aminte ca am niste amici care fac cabane din lemn (de brad), asa ca pun mana pe telefon si ii intreb daca nu cumva au si alt lemn pe 'stoc', un nuc, un cires ceva mai adevarat ...
surpriza aveau niste lemn de nuc, fostene de nuc, ma duc pe la ei si ma aleg cu lemn (stilul caracteristic pentru vreo 50 de cutite, nu ca trebe dar sa fie, nu de alta dar si piele tot pentru atata am, si nu puteam sa fac teci fara cutite) ...

ma apuc de treaba ... gasesc niste os de vita (in bucatarie, la nevasta) si ma gandesc ca ar iesi niste rondele interesante pentru cutit ....

asa ca ii dam drumu si combinatia este asa :
bloster, piele, os, piele, os, piele,os, piele si lemn de nuc am vrut sa folosesc lemn cat mai mult sa se vada textura cat mai mult ....

asa ca mi-a iesit un maner de 12 cm lungime zic egal cu lama ....
latime spre lama 3,5; mijloc 3 si capat 3,5 cm ....
grosime o medie de 2 cm

Avantajul cand iti faci un maner de cutit este acela ca poti sa ti-l faci exact pe mana ta, cum s-ar zice, stiti ca eu aveam o problema mai veche la cutitele de cumparat ca toate arata bine si au materialele dorite dar nu stii niciodata cum va sta in mana ... aici aceasta problema este rezolvata ....

Concluzie:

Manerul arata bine, imi place cum sta in mana, interesanta si forma ... acum trebuie sa mi vedem cat rezista ... asta e intrebarea cat poate sa reziste manerul ... bine inteles in conditiile utilizarii normale...

I-am facut si teaca mai ciudata inspirata din teciile multiscop vazute pe afara cu prindere la spate ...in care sa pot atasa si amnar ...

PS: Am incercat alt stil de imbibare a manerului in ulei ...
A folosit ulei de in sicativat si am facut 3 serii de 12 ore ...
12 ore in ulei, 12 ore uscare asta de 3 ori ....

Pentru cei interesati de cutitele utilitare, Bear Grylls vine cu un nou cutit in colaborare cu cei de la Gerber, interesant la el sunt teaca, mie mi s-a parut interesanta prinderea amnarului pe teaca (singurul lucru de vazut daca se poate schimba amnarul cand se termina - pare destul de subire nu cred ca trece de mai mult de 6000 de scaparari), interesant este si piatra de ascutit de pe interiorul tecii... va mai las sa descoperiti si alte inbunatatiri, ca posesor de Gerber - Big Rock Camp Knife (de altfel nota 10 ca cutit utilitar; 3 - pentru cioplit; 6 - ca tais si cat tine taisul), sper ca acest nou cutit de la Gerber sa fie inbunatatit ca material al lamei si utilitatile ei.

Postam niste filmulete de prezentare si inca o info. din cate am vazut si ca pret sta destul de bine undeva pe la 60 de dolari in USA (ceea ce nu ar fi mult undeva 200 - 250 de lei cu transport)

Nu am uitat, am inca doua cutite la care le-am facut manere sa vi le prezint ... sper cat mai curand posibil ...

Dupa destul de lungi cautari am gasit piele pentru teci la cuite asa ca am luat mai multa sa-mi ajunga pentru ... nu stiu .... 50 de cutite ... oricum daca o luam ca in bancul cu scotianul am sa-i spun la om peste 50 de ani cand o sa-l vizitez ... ' salutare, tot eu sunt!' ;)

In fine sa vb un pic de piele... am gasit si naturala de vreo 4 milimetrii grosime ... genul celei care o vedeti pe youtube la 'engarving' am o bucata destul de mare ... dar in care nu vreau sa intru momentan, inca mai asteptam sa invatam si apoi dam in pielea buna ...

si alte tipuri de piele de numai vreo 2 mm grosime dar tapana, cu diferite fete - ba neagra tipul facea curele de pantaloni din ele, sincer nu mi-am putut da seama daca e naturala sau sintetica, am sa mai intreb la specialisti si o sa revin pe tema asta (astea am prins doar capetele de material ce cadeau de la curele, dar destul de mari sa poti face teaca de cutit)...

...asta e faina ca fata e neara si daca o lucrezi bine nu trebuie sa-i mai faci nimic dupa - vopsire sau alte chestii - din asta am lucrat deja o teaca - nu m-am putut abtine si a mers destul de ok ... iata niste poze cu ea ... s-a mulat excelent pe maner ...

... nu e 100 % gata mai trebuie sa lucrez la ea ... dar sa va faceti o idee merge ...

si mai am alte tipuri de piele cu diferite tipuri de fete ....

... astea le folosea tipul al brauri ... oricum o sa va mai detaliez

... oricum daca va intereseaza pe careva ... din astea negre pot sa va trimit ... problema este sa stiu dimensiunile ca nu sunt marimi regulate ...

Cutite cu manere - facute de mine (Selfmade Handel)

Stiti ca am primit un corn de cerb, atunci spuneam sa vina lamele .. si-au venit ... un Lauri carbon 95, otel carbon (Analiza Otelului: Carbon steel: Tempered HRC 59 C-0,81 Mn-0,56 S-0,004 P-0,01 Si 0,35 V-0,161 Cr-0,54 - pentru cei interesati) de 9,5 cm lama asa ca m-am apucat de treaba corn, piele, lemn de visin, piele si iar corn ... dai si munceste ... experienta primului maner de acu o luna si ceva imi spune sa ma grija la imbinari, sa incerc sa-l strang cat mai bine, zis si facut ....

... muncesc o zi la el si ma uit seara la rezultat, satisfacator mai putin faptul ca, cutitul pare disproportionat intre lungimea lamei (9,5) si a manerului (13 cm)...

.... forma era insa foarte interesanta si la palmea mea destul de mare, parea ca se potriveste foarte bine.

Revin, si totusi manerul este cam mare in comparatie cu lama, luam masuri, pe la 12.00 noaptea luam decizia, mai taiem din maner, un 10,5 - 11 cm lungimea, mi se pare o dimensiunea mai aproape de adevar. Il tai si cutitul parca prinde o alta forma, mai placuta ochiului ...

....sta la fel de bine in mana, poate chiar mai bine.

Apoi, interesant, taierea componentelor pentru maner si ansamblarea lor nu dureaza foarte mult 2-3 h, dar dupa incepe distractia, smirgaluirea, asta a adunat ceva ore, destule, in fiecare zi 1h - 2, mai privim si mai intervenim, acum pot sa zic ca este intr-o forma finala in proportie de 90 % fara sa mai punem la socoteala faptul ca trebuie sa mai fac si o teaca .... dar mai revin.

In poze apare cu fratele lui mai mic (lama 7,5 cm) dar despre asta va povestesc maine ...

Oricum, sper sa nu fiti prea critici, e al doilea maner pe care il fac ....

Mie imi place foarte mult linia de culoare, care se imbina foarte bine intre corn si visin, trecerea e buna de la lemn la corn, ajuta pielea, daca l-as vedea pe un site de cutite sincer l-as cumpara (asta pentru ca mi-au murit laudatorii, parca este o vorba din popor) ....

... aspectul pozitiv din toata povestea asta este ca progresam, de la cum iesise primul maner (ca o unealta veche, vorba unui amic, m-a deranjat, dar m-a si ambitionat) ... deci suntem mai increzatori ...

Dupa mai multe sapaturi pe net, am hotarat ca nu vreau sa cumpar o tenda si un hamac ca ar fi mai bine sa mi le fac, zis si facut, am dat o raita pe la magazinul de materiale si am gasit pentru tenda (3x3m) material impermeabil, greutate tenda 1,200 kg s-ar putea sa fie un pic cam greu dar nu e problema.
Hamac - 1,50 x 3 m, greutate 0,700 kg asta mi se pare o greutate mai acceptabila cu toate ca e cred cu 100 - 200 gr. peste stas.

Dupa ce mai multa vreme m-am uitat la altii m-am gandit vara asta sa incerc sa imi fac un maner de cutit, zis si facut, lama otel carbon de la brisa, Rat tail si dai drumu ...
Am achizitionat din padure mai demult niste bucati de cires si cu niste nuc si baga ... cu ce o prind? ... poxipol - de care? ... ieftin 7-8 lei ... dar trebuie sa am grija sa imbin bine bucatile intre ele asa ca bag si piele, sa nu se vada poxipolul ... nu de alta dar e urat ... ma suna furnizorul de lama si ma intreaba ... blooster vrei? .... zic nu !!! imi place mai mult stilul de maner de la Helle fara bloster ... dar pune unu in pachet, ca ma hotarasc daca il folosesc sau nu ... pana la urma il pun si-mi place ... gandul meu, pentru un cutit outdoor fara blooster trebuie sa ai manerul dintr-un lemn de esenta tare ... in timp o sa-mi dati dreptate ...
... dupa cateva ore de munca, manerul ia forma si-mi place, stilul romanesc, lasa ca nu trebuie sa fie extraordinar si super finisat prima data, finisez si ma uit la el si zic, bine , bine dar in cel port, haidem sa facem si o teaca, da search iar pe "varul" google, ca pe asta il vad mai des decat multe din rudele mele asa ca a devenit parte din familie ... si dam mai departe dupa alte cateva ore iacata si teaca ... daca la maner nu sunt dat pe spate de teaca sunt un pic mai incantat ... piele (luata de de la un pantofar), Simarom luat de la chimicale (2,5 lei /sticluta) si restul imaginatie (gratis :))

Ideea de baza a fost sa vad daca pot face un maner, de aceea o sa vedeti niste preturi mici la toate materialele folosite, ar fi fost culmea sa sa cumpar materiale scumpe si lama extraordinara, eu nestiind daca pot a fac manerul, acum pot, mai invat si mai vedem urmatorul.

Niste pietre mici DC3(e mai mica decat DC4) si DC4 nu prea le simti in buzunar sau rucksac si poti sa iti ascuti cutitul outdoor fara sa cari pietrele combo mari dupa tine, ceea ce pe mine ma ajuta foarte mult, bineinteles ca acasa ai mai mult timp pentru cutite sa le ascuti, lustruiesti si sa le finisezi, dar nu tot timpul ai chef sa cari cu tine sculele necesare, asa ca dupa parerea mea asta ar fi cea mai buna solutie pentru outdoor.
Sigur ati vazut aceste pietre la Ray Mears si v-au atras atentia. Am incercat sa nu cad in pacatul marketing-ului dar dupa mai multe cautari am ajuns la concluzia ca sunt niste pietre care merita incercate, asa ca am ales DC4 si nu m-am inselat :))).

Din ce am mai vazut pe review-uri ideea de baza la ele este sa nu se deformeze si sa ramana suprafata dreapta .... e foarte important sa ramana suprafata dreapta a pietrei in ascutirea cutitelor.

Desigur cei care ati vazut piatra la Ray Mears ati observat ca mai are in tocul de la piatra si patru cuie cu care fixeaza piatra pe lemn, buna idee am aplicat-o si eu... eu le-as recomanda la producatori sa puna patru cuisoare din fabrica ca la toti le-am vazut.

Cutit apreciat foarte mult in America datorita raportului calitate pret, facut dintr-o singura bucata de otel grosime de 2,5 mm, practic manerul si lama este din aceasi bucata.
O alta treaba interesanta este ca manerul este gol si poti sa ii pui o varga in capat astfel putand sa o transformi intr-o sulita.

Teaca mai are un buzunar micut unde se poate pune fara probleme un briceag, amnar sau ce altceva vreti.

Din punctul meu de vedere este un cutit cu care sa cam faci de toate si fara sa te gandesti ca ai dat o groaza de bani pe el si sa nu cumva sa se zgarie.

A iesit Mora Outdoor 2010 ... interesant design s-ar putea sa aiba mai mult succes decat Mora Outdoor 2000 pentru ca modelul de lama este de la cel vechi si au schimbat manerul ... parerea mea este ca arata mai bine cu manerul nou ... asta probabil ca era si ideea ... progresul ...
Foarte interesanta mi se pare si teaca ... chiar daca este plastic :)))

M-am uitat la pret(la noi) si mi se pare cam mare pentru el comparativ cu ce ai putea sa iei daca mai pui 50 de lei fata de pretul lui ... dar e parerea mea, asa ca ...

Iluminare a ecranului.

Cu vreo 2 ani in urma am cautat un ceas pentru iesiri care sa nu necesite foarte multa intretinere ... asa ca solutia era Casio PRW 1100T - ceas care are incarcare solara, sincronizare automata cu ceasul atomic, carcasa si curea din titan, altimetru, barometru, temperatura, compas digital.
Acum ca il am de 2 ani (folosit intens - pozele sunt actuale, asa ca se poate vedea uzura fizica a ceasului) sunt mai mult decat multumit de alegerea facuta, ceasul se comporta foarte bine in conditii de utilizare normala.
Am sa explic functiile ceasului cu partile bune si partile rele.

Incarcarea solara: la incarcare maxima in carte spune ca ceasul poate merge 5 luni(in timpul asta sa nu fie expus la soare). Sicer nu am apucat sa vad indicatorul mai jos de M (asta fiind incarcarea de jumatate, are trei indicatori pe display L - Low, M - Medium Si H -High) deoarece folosesc si functia de Power Saving si noaptea la intuneric si stand pe noptiera se stinge - salvand baterie - in rest in luniile de primavara, vara pana in toamna este pe H - incarcare maxima.

Iluminare a ecranului: Aceasta poate fi automata sau sa apesi un buton. Cea automata o folosesc foarte mult si este foarte practica. Aceasta se aprinde in momentul cand te uiti la ces si se creaza un unghi fata de orizontal de peste 40 grade, asta fiind unghiulla care intorci mana sa te uiti la ceas.

Compas digital: 16 puncte de masurare, raza de masurare de la 0 la 359 grade, unitate de masurare un grad. Functie foarte buna am folosit-o foarte des in padure ori cu ceasul la mana ori cu el dat jos si functioneaza foarte bine. Cand l-am primit nu a necesitat alte ajustari cu toate ca cei de la Casio recomanda ca toate functiile sa fie verificate si eventual sa le programati, la fiecare explica cum.

Termometru/Thermometer:
Display raza: -10 to 60 C (14 to 140 F)
Unitate de masura: 0.1 C (0.2 F)
Aici are un pic de problema ceasul deoarece senzorul pentru temperatura se situeaza aproape de piele si ceasul ia o temperatura combinata afara si temperatura corpului neafisand tempertura corecta, daca vrei sa iti afiseze temperatura corecta de afara iti recomand sa dai ceasul jos de la mana il lasi vreo 10-15 min si ai o valoare exacta, sincer pe mine in timp nu m-a deranjat acest aspect.

Barometru / Barometer:
Display raza: 260 to 1,100 hPa (7.65 to 32.45 inHg)
Unitate de masura: 1 hPa (0.05 inHg)

Aici nu pot sa va spun prea multe ca nu ma prea pricep, am observat doar in timp valorile la vreme frumoasa si la vreme urata, dar prea multe nu va pot spune ca nu prea stiu, am avut grija doar sa fie ajustat deoarece am inteles ca sunt mai mutle masuratori care ceasul le face in functie de barometru, nu mai stiu toate dar daca va intereseaza exact am sa caut si vi le spun pe toate.

Fratele meu este mai atras de cutitele mari: macete, kukri(sau khukuri) .... fiecare cu 'nebunia' lui.
De ziua lui a primit un astfel de cutit, originar din Nepal, varianta cea mai mica de 150,00 mm, Kukri Jungle, asa ca l-am rugat sa mi-l dea pentru un review.

... cutitul este din otel de arc de camion ... un singur cutit ... celalalte variante mai au la teaca inca doua cutite mai mici care se numesc karda si chakmak ... se pare ca asta ar fi si varianta oficiala a lui

Partea interesanta:

- lama groasa: 7 mm
- tais bun
- finisaj bunicel mai putin partea de alama care nu ma atrage in mod special
- otel din arc de camion

... un cutit interesant dar nu pe gustul meu ... dar poate cine stie poate pe voi va atrage mai mult ...

Acum sa vorbim un pic de neplacerile 'fizice' ale cutitului:
- forma curbata care nu ma atrage deloc
- manerul mi se pare mic - 87 mm, cel putin pentru palma mea, la alte modele mai mari s-ar putea sa nu fie acceasi problema.
- modelul acesta nu mi se pare ca ar putea fi un cutit pentru outdoor cu care sa poti face tot ce ai nevoie in jurul zonei in care campezi (ma refer ca un cutit helle, gerber, mora ... cu ele poti taia lemne, ciopli, manca s.a.m.d.) - mai ales ca nu are karda si chakmak care probabil vin in completare pentru task-urile outdoor, nu spun ca cu acesta nu poti face treaba asta dar s-ar putea sa fie incomod.

Concluzia:

Un cutit interesant, nu pe gustul meu (chiar deloc), nu l-as folosi pentru outdoor, cel putin nu varianta asta fara karda si chakmak.
Asta e parerea mea ... scuze pentru cei care indragesc acest tip de cutite ...

Oricum am postat mai jos un pic din istoria kukri gasita pe net ... am facut niste selectii .... 'enjoy'

Amnar - folosit!

Petre m-a rugat sa postez si amnarul folosit, asa ca ma conformez.

Nu stiu firma de la care este dar interesant la el ca are doua 'lame' de facut scantei.
Daca imi aduc bine aminte in prezentare era ca poate ajunge la 5000 - 6000 de scaparari.

Una zimtata ca un fierastrau mic - care s-a rupt la jumatate si alta clasica - dar tot zimtata - cu zimti mari.

Carte Arbori - Home Made

Daca tot suntem la partea de bushcraft, as vrea sa va arat o carte pe care am facut-o anul trecut.
Lipsa unei carti in format mic (preferabil a6) si care sa contina inforatii pe principiul 'asta e planta si cu informatiil aferente' (pe principiul unui ghid practic) m-a facut sa caut pe net niste fise botanice de arbori pe care le-am ajustat putin si pe verso am pus niste date "tehnice".

Pentru durabilitate am laminat fiecare fisa (il iau cu mine la iesiri si nu totdeauna sunt curat pe mana cand il folosesc, asa ca varianta asta mi s-a parut cea mai simpla) plus ca arata si mai bine asa.

Fiecare fisa are pe fata denumirea arborelui in romana, latina si engleza.

Datele "tehnice" includ: raspandire, metode de indentificare, clasa din care face parte, importanta economica, utilizare - flori, fructe ...

Am facut doar 2 exemplare - unu mie si al doilea pentru tatal unui prieten de-al meu care a si verificat informatiile (fiind fost padurar).

Fisele cuprind: tei, ulm, paltin, jugastru, brad pecinata,scorus de munte, salcie, salcam, pin alb, plop negru, frasin, pin de padure, pin negru, molid, stejar, plop tremurator, fag, corn, castan comestibil, carpen, arin, gorun, mesteacan, paducel, larice (zada), macesul, jneapan, castan porcesc, alunul, zambrul.

Am sa postez azi mai multe chestii marunte ... acesorii care le-am acumulat in decursul anilor si imi era lene sa fac un post pentru fiecare obiect ...
Acu ca s-au mai adunat o sa le arat pe toate intr-un post ...

Amnare:
Am vreo trei - am sa postez doar 2 unul fiind deja foarte utilizat si nu mai are rost sa-l arat.

Primul este o bagheta de magneziu, aceasta se razuieste intr-o mica gramajoara si se aprinde cu amnarul care dupa parerea mea este cam mic. Oricum buna treaba cu magneziu te scuteste de un efort suplimentar.

Al doilea amnar il am de la Primus. Sincer acesta este preferatul meu am aprins cu el cam de toate in materie de aprins focul, pentru aprins preferata mea este coaja de mesteacan (din alte materiale folosite: ciupearca de stejar - nu stiu exact cum ii spune, lemne facute foarte subtiri mai subtiri decat batul de chibrit, paie, iarba uscata, vata simpla, vata cu ceara pe ea - asta e varianta foarte simpla arde si destul de mult, pastile de aprins focul - astea se aprind la prima scanteie si altele).

Multifunctional - "No name"
Acesta l-am luat acum cativa ani. nu prea folosesc lama lui la taiat - sincer nici nu-mi prea place.

... celalalte ustensile - cleste, fiersatrau, pila, surubelnite s.a.m.d. - merg. E bine sa-l ai in geanta, nu stii cand ai nevoie de el.

Victorinox - Sharpener
Printre primele mele "scule de ascutit" - bunicel. Oricum foarte multi o sa va recomande sa nu folositi astfel de instrumente, ci sa folositi pietrele de ascutit, piele si pasla de ascutit cutite, dar ce faci in momentul cand ai instrumentul cu tine si tu trebuie sa ascuti cutitul - de descurci pana dai de pietre...:)

Eu l-am folosit - ce am observat - iti creaza pe tais un tais si mai subtire care nu o sa tina foarte mult poate chiar deloc, recomandarea mea este daca il aveti incercati sa il folositi cat mai putin.

Lant Victorinox - cu 2 carabine in capat - mi se pare foarte functional.
Cand plec pe undeva arunc si un victorinox in buzunar legat la lant si sunt sigur ca nu-l pierd.
Il recomand mai ales ca victorionx nu au clema de prindere la buzunar, asadar daca nu vreti sa le pierdeti atunci merita.

Ma mai uit ce mai am si mai revin ...

Parerea mea:
Am cautat un alt model de fierastrau care se inchide, am avut un Meyerco inainte si nu eram foarte multumit de el(acesta fiind la jumate de pret fata de laplander dar se si vede diferenta), asa ca am dat un search dupa altu si l-am gasit, sunt impresionat: usor, dintii de la Bacho, XT, care taie in ambele directii, atat cand 'tragi' dar si cand 'impingi', initial am crezut ca finisarea lamei 'neagra' este doar de finisaj, dar se pare ca ea ajuta in sensul ca frecarea este mai mica la taiere marindu-i performantele. Buton de blocare atat pe inchis cat si pentru deschis, ceea ce ajuta.

Un alt avantaj: In cazul in care se rupe lama, aceasta se poate schimba.
Poate taia atat lemn, oase cat si alte materiale.

Ideal pentru orice 'camper', il recomand cu caldura.

Acest fierastrau a fost facut 'cunoscut' de Ray Mears in documentarele lui.
Oricum am pus aici un filmulet in care prezinta un truc destul de interesant.

CE ESTE OŢELUL?

Oţelul reprezintă o familie extinsă de metale. Acesta nu este un element, ca aluminiul ori aurul, ci un aliaj. Toate tipurile de oţel sunt aliaje ce conţin fier, carbon şi alte elemente, cum sunt nichelul, cromul ori tungstenul. În funcţie de procentul de carbon adăugat aliajului, oţelul va fi mai dur sau mai moale.
Procentul de carbon variază între 0,25% şi 1,50%; cu cât procentul de carbon este mai mare, cu atât aliajul va fi mai dur.

Iată câteva exemple de instrumente cu duritate diferită, în funcţie de procentul de carbon:
- foarfece ori cuţit, 1,4% carbon;
- topor, 1% carbon;
- zalele unui lanţ, 0,05% carbon.

RĂCIREA ŞI DURITATEA OŢELULUI

Modul în care se face răcirea oţelului determină cât de dur şi casant este acesta. O răcire treptată va produce oţel mai puţin dur decât o răcire bruscă.

CE ÎNSEAMNĂ "STAINLESS STEEL"?

Pe mai toate cuţitele veţi găsi acestă inscripţie, "stainless steel"; este asigurarea producătorului că nu vă va rugini cuţitul. În mod obişnuit oţelul "stainless steel" conţine fier, carbon, crom şi nichel. După definiţie, oţelul necoroziv (inoxidabil), "stainless steel", conţine un minimum de 11% crom.

CE ESTE "HIGH SPEED STEEL"?

Este posibil să fi observat, dacă aţi cumpărat, de exemplu, burghie pentru o bormaşină ori discuri pentru polizor, că pe unele este menţionat că acestea conţin high speed steel. Ce înseamnă acest lucru? Este semnul că puteţi folosi burghiul ori discul pe metal, căci vor rezista la temperaturile foarte mari ce se dezvoltă la frecarea metal pe metal.

Parerea mea:

De ceva vreme am pus ochii pe acest cutit dar shopul de unde vroiam sa il iau nu l-au mai avut in stoc o buna bucata de vreme, cu ajutorul unor prieteni aceasta achizitie a devenit realizabila, asa ca iata-ne cu un nou cutit in colectie.

Prima impresie, excelenta, un cutit foarte bine realizat, cu linii simple care ii sporesc eleganta, cu o lama in tais in stil scandinav, materialul folosit este un T7MO - otel triplu laminat cu un exterior din otel inoxidabil( cred ca e 12c27 - dar nu vreau sa ma insel) pentru ai mari rezistenta la rugina si in interior dintr-un aliaj de otel de inalta calitate pentru ca taisul sa tina mai mult, rezistenta pe scara Rockewell este de 58-59 HRC, un maner din mesteacan finlandez si o teaca de piele foarte bine realizata (nu stiu inca din ce fel de piele - dar o sa revin cu mai multe informatii)

Cu o grosime a lamei de 3 mm - mie mi se pare suficient pentru bushcraft - fiind posesor de cutite si mai groase a materialului am observat o oarecare "jena" la coplit, asa ca 3 mm mi se pare suficient fara sa ma incurce la coplit.
Un cutit foarte echilibrat si cu o priza foarte buna.
De sesizat la Helle sunt detaliile - foarte bine lucrat, cutitul in sine cat si teaca. Cu toate ca sunt ca produsele de serie, cei de la fabrica Helle daclara ca fiecare cutit este facut de un "craftsman" calificat.

Cutitul vine ascutit cu niste performante demne de invidiat.
Cutitul nu este full tang, este rat tail in cautarea mea de informatii despre cutit am gasit si o mica problema semnalata de cineva, am prezentat-o mai jos "Opinions - Multiple Sources" - sincer mi se pare destul de ciudat dar nu imposibil.

Opinions - Multiple sources:

* The handle is fashioned out of Artic Birch that fills the hand nicely with no hard edges. The blade is constructed by laminating a soft, stainless steel around a core of hard, carbon steel tempered to 59 Rc. This tri-laminate creates a blade which takes and holds a razor-sharp edge without becoming brittle. It also provides protection from rust and corrosion. For those who use a firesteel and are accustomed to using the back of their knife to create the sparks, the laminated steel in this area is too soft. One way around this is to use the very rear of the knife blade where it meets the choil.

*The Helle Knives are made of triple laminate stainless steel. The center portion is of high quality stainless steel that tests out to be 58-59 on the Rockwell scale. The outside steel is 18/8 stainless. This makes a blade that is very sharp. Each blade is made under the strictest quality control in the modern Helle factory. Each handle is handmade by quality craftsman and, because of the nature of wood, may vary slightly. Unlike most handmade or custom knives, these knives are very affordable. Each blade is made of triple laminated steel. The center section is a high quality stainless steel that tests out to 59 on the Rockwell scale. Each side of the blade is composed of the famous 18/8 stainless steel. This combination allows the manufacturer to create a blade that is extremely sharp without being brittle. These blades are so highly thought of in Europe that many custom knife makers use the Helle blades and create their own handles and sheaths.

* Problem: don't want to sound negative but I can only tell you of my experience regarding Helle and to be honest I may have been very unlucky. But I purchased a Helle Eggen once.

It was a great knife for the money fit and finish was excellent and the laminated blade was a beauty. It did need some filework on the spine to enable it to strike sparks off a ferro rod, the spine was very rounded and needed squaring up a little.

However I had the knife about two months, I was putting it through it's paces in the beautiful part of France called Grande Massif, a lovely semi wild area (forgive me if I've spelt that wrong, but that's how it sounds, my French lessons are not going well :o ). Anyway I went to stab the knife into a tree stump, the handle cracked clean off, my hand shot forward still holding bits of the handle and my fingers slid down near enough the entire length of the blade . I was so glad I'd just sharpened it. Lots of swearing and lots of blood swiftly followed. My right hand was useless, we were fifty miles from our transport and I obviously needed medical attention, a band aid wasn't going to do the job. I decided there and then never to buy a Helle again. Once bitten twice shy you might say.

Now as I have said I may have just been unfortunate but I personally don't want to giive the benefit of the doubt to a knife which cost me fourteen stitches and a bucket load of money and my holiday.

I suppose it depends how much and how hard you are going to use your bushcraft knife,

Dupa mai multe 'sapaturi' pe net mi s-a deschis apetitul pentru cioplit o cana 'kuska' sau mai bine zis o tentativa de cana kuska, asa ca am cautat si bineinteles am si gasit si ustensilele necesare, un cuit mora curbat 164, altfel este destul de greu de cioplit in interior.

Am facut rost de material (lemn de mesteacan) si m-am apucat de treaba, ceea ce a iesit m-a uimit si pe mine... adica pentru un incepator mi se pare ca a iesit destul de bine (mi-au murit laudatorii - :)) )... ce ziceti? ... trebuiau peretii laterali ai canii mai subtiri dar mi-a fost frica sa nu stric cana ... la urmatoarea promit sa iasa cat se poate mai aproape de adevarata kuska ....

si din materialul care a mai ramas am mai incercat sa fac si o lingura de lemn...

Oricum ... ca noi de cutite ne ocupam ... pentru cei ce vor sa si ciopleasca cu cutitele din dotare, sa mai faca una alta, le recomand acest cutit ... ajuta mult ...
Acest cutit se mai numeste si cutit de linguri, nu de alta dar sa nu se incurce lumea ;).

La operatiune am folosit 2 cutite - Mora Clipper si Mora 164 ...
Timp de executie efectiva ... nu mai mult de 10 ore ...

Asa ca in timpul liber mai puteti sa va puneti cutitele la incercare ...

La o iesire in natura, un prieten de-al meu m-a lovit in orgoliu cu un cutit custom, am tot rumegat, cu capul in pamant si am inceput sa caut si eu cutite custom - nu prea credeam ca o sa ma pot apropia de ele din cauza bugetului meu alocat cutitelor.

Asa ca am tot 'arat' pe net pana am dat peste un domn serios din Arad.
Dupa mai multe discutii am reusit sa achizitionz primul meu cutit custom, din carbon steel (nu-mi pare rau), otel suminagashi steel - 23 straturi (numit si otelul alb - din cate am gasit eu pe net),acum invatam acest metal - un metal moale la exterior si foarte tare la interior, full tang, cu orificiu pentru prins snur.

Dupa cum stiti am boala 'cum se simte in mana' pot sa spun ca foarte foarte bine, aveam o teama deoarece, cutitul Gerber - full tang pe care il cumparasem inainte mi se pare putin rigid la miscari.

Interesant la cutitele custom sau cel putin cel care il am eu - este urmatorul lucru 'au o istorie', nu sunt perfecte ca cele din fabrica ca finisare ci au cate o mica imperfectiune care are o poveste in spate (Asa ca nu va asteptati sa cumparati un cutit custom si sa fie perfect - sigur, toti tindem spre a cumpara un cutit care are finisajul perfect sau cei ce il fac sa le iesa perfect - dar tocmai asta este fapul pentru care il face mai special, pe langa faptul ca e unicat, nu mai are nimeni cutit exact ca al tau - vorbim desigur de forma si design). Ceea ce il face sa fie un cutit care are un 'suflet' dat de cel care l-a facut, incet incet asa ne dam seama ce inseamna lucrurile facute 'hand made' si de ce costa destul de mult.

Oricum, stima pentru cei care au inceput sa faca cutite custom si sa ridice stacheta cat mai sus.

Non-steels used for cutlery

Talonite - Stellite 6K - Boye Dendritic Cobalt(BDC)
These cobalt alloys have incredible wear resistance, and are practically corrosion resistant. Stellite 6K has been around for years, but was expensive and very difficult to work, and so is only rarely seen. Talonite is easier to work, and as a result has been gaining in popularity, especially among web-based knife buyers. David Boye uses his casting process to manufacture Boye Dendritic Cobalt. This material is tough and has great wear resistance, but is relatively weak.

Titanium
Newer titanium alloys can be hardened near 50 Rc, and at that hardness seem to take something approaching a useful edge. It is extremely rust-resistant, and is non-magnetic. Popular as expensive dive knives these days, because the SEALs use it as their knife when working around magnetic-detonated mines. Mission knives uses titanium. Tygrys makes a knife with a steel edge sandwiched by titanium.

Ceramics
Numerous knives have been offered with ceramic blades. Usually, those blades are very very brittle, and cannot be sharpened by the user; however, they hold an edge well. Boker and Kyocera make knives from this type of ceramic. Kevin McClungcame out with a ceramic composite knife blade that much tougher than the previous ceramics, tough enough to actually be useful as a knife blade for most jobs. It is also user-sharpenable, and holds an edge incredibly well.

Non-stainless Steels (carbon, alloy, and tool steels)

These steels are the steels most often forged. Stainless steels can be forged (guys like Sean McWilliams do forge stainless), but it is very difficult. In addition, carbon steels can be differentially tempered, to give a hard edge-holding edge and a tough springy back. Stainless steels are not differentially tempered. Of course, carbon steels will rust faster than stainless steels, to varying degrees. Carbon steels are also often a little bit less of a crap shoot than stainless steels -- I believe all the steels named below are fine performers when heat treated properly.

In the AISI steel designation system, 10xx is carbon steel, any other steels are alloy steels. For example, the 50xx series are chromium steels.

In the SAE designation system, steels with letter designations (e.g., W-2, A2) are tool steels.

There is an ASM classification system as well, but it isn't seen often in the discussion of cutlery steels, so I'll ignore it for now. Often, the last numbers in the name of a steel are fairly close to the steel's carbon content. So 1095 is ~.95% carbon. 52100 is ~1.0% carbon. 5160 is ~.60% carbon.

D2

D2 is sometimes called a "semi-stainless". It has a fairly high chrome content (12%), but not high enough to classify it as stainless. It is more stain resistant than the carbon steels mentioned above, however. It has excellent wear resistance. D2 is much tougher than the premium stainless steels like ATS-34, but not as tough as many of the other non-stainless steels mentioned here. The combination of great wear resistance, almost-stainlessness, and good toughness make it a great choice for a number of knife styles. Bob Dozier is one maker who uses D2. Benchmade has begun using D2 in its Axis AFCK.

M2

A "high-speed steel", it can hold its temper even at very high temperatures, and as such is used in industry for high-heat cutting jobs. It is slightly tougher, and is slightly more wear resistant, than D2. However, M2 rusts easily. Benchmade has started using M2 in one of their AFCK 710 variations.

A2

An excellent air-hardening tool steel, it is tougher than D2 and M2, with less wear resistance . As an air-hardening steel, don't expect it to be differentially tempered. Its good toughness makes it a frequent choice for combat knives. Chris Reeve and Phil Hartsfield both use A2.

O1

This is a steel very popular with forgers, as it has the reputation for being "forgiving". It is an excellent steel, that takes and holds an edge superbly, and is tough (although not as tough as, say, 5160). It rusts easily, however. Randall Knives uses O1, so does Mad Dog Knives.

W-2

Reasonably tough and holds an edge well, due to its .2% vanadium content. Most files are made from W-1, which is the same as W-2 except for the vanadium content (W-1 has no vanadium).

The 10-series

1095 (and 1084, 1070, 1060, 1050, etc.) Many of the 10-series steels for cutlery, though 1095 is the most popular for knives. When you go in order from 1095-1050, you generally go from more carbon to less, from more wear resistance to less wear resistance, and tough to tougher to toughest. As such, you'll see 1060 and 1050, used often for swords. For knives, 1095 is sort of the "standard" carbon steel, not too expensive and performs well. It is reasonably tough and holds an edge well, and is easy to sharpen. It rusts easily. This is a simple steel, which contains only two alloying elements: .95% carbon and .4% manganese. The various Kabars are usually 1095 with a black coating.

Carbon V

Carbon V is a trademarked term by Cold Steel, and as such is not necessarily one particular kind of steel; rather, it describes whatever steel Cold Steel happens to be using, and there is an indication they do change steels from time to time. Carbon V performs roughly between 1095-ish and O1-ish, in my opinion, and rusts like O1 as well. I've heard rumors that Carbon V is O1 (which I think is unlikely) or 1095. Numerous industry insiders insist it is 0170-6. Some spark tests done by a rec.knives reader seem to point the finger at 50100-B. Since 50100-B and 0170-6 are the same steel (see below), this is likely the current Carbon V.

0170-6 - 50100-B

These are different designations for the same steel: 0170-6 is the steel makers classification, 50100-B is the AISI designation. A good chrome-vanadium steel that is somewhat similar to O1, but much less expensive. The now-defunct Blackjack made several knives from O170-6, and Carbon V may be 0170-6. 50100 is basically 52100 with about 1/3 the chromium of 52100, and the B in 50100-B indicates that the steel has been modified with vanadium, making this a chrome-vanadium steel.

L-6

A band saw steel that is very tough and holds an edge well, but rusts easily. It is, like O1, a forgiving steel for the forger. If you're willing to put up with the maintenance, this may be one of the very best steels available for cutlery, especially where toughness is desired. In a poll on the knifemakers email list back in the 1990s, when asked what the makers would use for their personal knife, L-6 emerged as the top choice.

5160

A steel popular with forgers, it is popular now for a variety of knife styles, but usually bigger blades that need more toughness. It is essentially a simple spring steel with chromium added for hardenability. It has good wear resistance, but is known especially for its outstanding toughness. This steel performs well over a wide range of hardnesses, showing great toughness when hardened in the low 50s Rc for swords, and hardened up near the 60s for knives needing more edge holding.

52100

Formerly a ball-bearing steel, and as such previously only used by forgers, it's available in bar stock now. It is similar to 5160 (though it has around 1% carbon vs. 5160 ~.60%), but holds an edge better. It is less tough than 5160. It is used often for hunting knives and other knives where the user is willing to trade off a little of 5160's toughness for better wear resistance. However, with the continued improvement of 52100 heat treat, this steel is starting to show up in larger knives and showing excellent toughness. A modified 52100 is being used by Jerry Busse in his lower-cost production line, and such high-performance knife luminaries as Ed Fowler strongly favor 52100.

CPM 10V

Crucible's somewhat-stain-resistant 10V provides incredible wear resistance with D2-class toughness. It is an outstanding choice when maximum wear resistance is desired, but not super toughness.

CPM 3V

CPM's incredibly tough 3V gives excellent wear resistance and good stain resistance as well, although when it does stain, it is said to pit rather than surface rust. When maximum toughness is desired, with very good wear resistance, 3V is a great choice.

INFI

INFI is currently only used by Jerry Busse. In place of some of the carbon (INFI contains .5% carbon), INFI has nitrogen. The result is a non-stainless steel that is nevertheless extremely stain resistant (informally reported at close to D2, or even better), incredibly tough for a high-alloy ingot steel, and with extremely good wear resistance.

Vascowear

A very hard-to-find steel, with a high vanadium content. It is extremely difficult to work and very wear-resistant. It is out of production.
B. Stainless Steels

Remember that all steels can rust. But the following steels, by virtue of their > 13% chromium, have much more rust resistance than the above steels. I should point out that there doesn't appear to be consensus on what percent of chromium is needed for a steel to be considered stainless. In the cutlery industry, the de-facto standard is 13%, but the ASM Metals Handbooks says "greater than 10%", and other books cite other numbers. It probably makes more sense to measure stainlessness by the amount of free chromium (chromium not tied up in carbides), because free chromium is what forms the chromium oxide on the blade surface that offers stain resistance. The alloying elements have a strong influence on the amount of chromium needed; lower chromium with the right alloying elements can still have "stainless" performance.

Because any particular stainless steel is often heat treated to around the same hardness (i.e., 440C is usually around 57 Rc, ATS-34 is 59-61 Rc, S60V is getting consensus at around 56 Rc, etc.) even by different manufacturers, it's a bit easier to give a general feeling of the performance you'll get from different classes of stainless steels, without introducing too many inaccuracies. Please note, though, that the act of grouping differing steels in classes definitely does oversimplify, and some of these steels might more properly fit between the class it's in, and the following (or previous) one. In addition, better heat treat can move a steel up in performance significantly. Last disclaimer: not everyone will agree with the groupings I have here. Whew, all that said, here is a general categorization of stainless steels:

420 and 420J
represent the low end of stainless steels. They are very stain resistant, and are tough due to being very soft. However, they are also very weak, and not very wear resistant. Generally speaking, expect these steels to lose their edge quickly through abrasion and impaction. They are used in less-expensive knives due to their ease of machining.

440A and its relative peers, 425M, 420HC, 12C27 and 6A
are the next group. They can be hardened more than the previous group, for better strength, and they are more wear resistant, though wear resistance is just getting to the point of acceptability. 440A and 12C27 are the leaders of this group, with solid heat treat both perform okay. 12C27 is said to be particularly pure and can perform very well when heat treated properly. 6A trails those two steels, though with its vanadium content, can take a razor edge. 425M and 420HC trail the rest.

Gin-1, ATS-55, 8A and 440C
comprise the next group. These steels will usually be stronger than the previous group, and more wear-resistant. Generally speaking, they retain excellent stain resistance properties, though ATS-55 sticks out here as not particularly stain resistant. 8A is also worth a mention, with some vanadium content, it can take an extremely sharp edge very easily, but is also the weakest and least wear-resistant of this group.

ATS-34/154CM, VG-10 and S60V
are the next group up. It's difficult to make generalizations about ATS-34 and 154-CM -- they are in such widespread use that heat treat varies widely. These steels provide a high-end performance benchmark for stainless steels, and hold an edge well, and are tough enough for many uses (though not on par with good non-stainlesses). They aren't very stain resistant, however. VG-10 can be thought of as being like ATS-34 and 154-CM, but doing just about everything a hair better. It's a little more stain resistant, tougher, holds an edge a little better. And VG-10 has vanadium in it, it's fine-grained and takes the best edge of this group. S60V has by far the best wear resistance of the group, though consensus is becoming that it should be left around the same hardness as 440C (56ish Rc), which means it will be relatively weak compared to ATS-34, 154-CM, and VG-10, and so it will indent and lose its edge quickly when strength is required. S60V is the winner here when pure abrasion resistance is much more important than edge strength.

BG-42,S90V and S30V
constitute the next group. BG-42 has better wear resistance than all the previous steels except for S60V. It is tougher than ATS-34, and more stain resistant. It is wear resistant to the point where it can be difficult to sharpen. S90V represents the ultimate in wear resistance in the steels discussed so far. Also tougher than ATS-34, and more stain resistant. It can be very difficult to put an edge on. It is difficult enough to machine than it is used almost exclusively in custom knives, not production knives. In your buying decisions, you might want to take into account the difficulty of sharpening these steels. S30V backs off on the wear resistance of S90V, but is significantly tougher and easier to sharpen. It is more wear resistant than BG-42. The jury is still out, but it may end up this week's ultimate high-end all-around stainless steel, due to high performance coupled with easier machinability and sharpenability than the other steels in this class.

Okay, on to the steels in more detail:

420
Lower carbon content (<.5%) than the 440 series makes this steel extremely soft, and it doesn't hold an edge well. It is used often for diving knives, as it is extremely stain resistant. Also used often for very inexpensive knives. Outside salt water use, it is too soft to be a good choice for a utility knife.

420HC
420 modified with more carbon, to be roughly comparable to 440A.

440 A - 440 B - 440C
The carbon content (and hardenability) of this stainless steel goes up in order from A (.75%) to B (.9%) to C (1.2%). 440C is an excellent, high-end stainless steel, usually hardened to around 56-58 Rc, very tough and with good edge-holding at that hardness. 440C was the king of stainless cutlery steels in the 1980s, before ATS-34 took the title in the 1990s. All three resist rust well, with 440A being the most rust resistant, and 440C the least. The SOG Seal 2000 is 440A, and Randall uses 440B for their stainless knives. 440C is fairly ubiquitous, and is generally considered a very good general-use stainless, tougher and more stain resistant than ATS-34 but with less edge-holding and weaker. If your knife is marked with just "440", it is probably the less expensive 440A; if a manufacturer had used the more expensive 440C, he'd want to advertise that. The general feeling is that 440A (and similar steels, see below) is just good enough for everyday use, especially with a good heat treat (we've heard good reports on the heat treat of SOG's 440A blades, don't know who does the work for them). 440-B is a very solid performer and 440-C is excellent.

425M - 12C27
Both are very similar to 440A. 425M (.5% carbon) is used by Buck knives. 12C27 (.6% carbon) is a Scandanavian steel used often in Finish puukkos and Norwegian knives. 12C27 is said to perform very well when carefully heat treated, due to its high purity. When done right, it may be a slighter better choice than 440A and its ilk.

AUS-6 - AUS-8 - AUS-10(aka 6A 8A 10A)
Japanese stainless steels, roughly comparable in carbon content to 440A (AUS-6, .65% carbon) and 440B (AUS-8, .75% carbon) and 440C (AUS-10, 1.1% carbon). AUS-6 is used by Al Mar, and is a competitor to low-end steels like 420J. Cold Steel's use of AUS-8 has made it pretty popular, as heat treated by CS it won't hold an edge like ATS-34, but is a bit softer (and therefore weaker) and tougher. 8A is a competitor of middle-tier steels like ATS-55 and Gin-1. AUS-10 has roughly the same carbon content as 440C but with slightly less chromium, so it should be a bit less rust resistant but perhaps a bit tougher than 440C. It competes with higher-end steels, like ATS-34 and above. All 3 steels have some vanadium added (which the 440 series lacks), which will improve wear resistance and refines the grain for both good toughness, and the ability to sharpen to a very keen edge. Many people have reported that they are able to get knives using steels that include vanadium, like 8A, sharper than they can get non-vanadium steels like ATS-34.

GIN-1 aka G-2
A steel with slightly less carbon, slightly more chromium, and much less moly than ATS-34, it used to be used often by Spyderco in their less-expensive knives. Spyderco has since switched to ATS-55 and 8A, but Benchmade is now using Gin-1 in their less-expensive knives. A very good stainless steel, with a bit less wear resistance and strength than ATS-34.

ATS-34 - 154-CM
ATS-34 was the hottest high-end stainless in the 1990s. 154-CM is the original American version, but for a long time was not manufactured to the high quality standards knifemakers expect, so knifemakers switched over to ATS-34. CPM is again making high-quality 154-CM, and some companies seeking to stick with American-made products (like Microtech) are using it. ATS-34 is a Hitachi product that is very, very similar to 154-CM. Normally hardened to around 60 Rc, it holds an edge very well and is tough enough even at that high hardness. Not as rust resistant as the 400 series above. Many custom makers use ATS-34, and Spyderco (in their high-end knives) and Benchmade are among the production companies that use it. Contrary to popular belief, both steels are manufactured through the Argon/Oxygen/Decarburization process (AOD), not vacuum remelted.

ATS-55
Similar to ATS-34, but with the moly removed and some other elements added. This steel is a good cutlery steel but a tier behind ATS-34 and its closest competitors (other steels in ATS-55's class might be Gin-1 and AUS-8). With the molybdenum removed, ATS-55 does not seem to hold an edge quite like ATS-34, and reports are that it's less rust-resistant. My guess is that with the moly gone, more chromium is tied up in carbides -- which means less free chromium for rust resistance, and softer chromium carbides replacing moly carbides for less wear resistance.

VG-10
Another vanadium-containing high-end stainless steel. Due to the vanadium content, VG-10 takes a killer edge, just like other vanadium steels like BG-42 and AUS-8. VG-10 is also tougher and more rust-resistant than ATS-34, and seems to hold an edge better.

BG-42
Bob Loveless announced a while back that he's switching from ATS-34 to this steel. Keep an eye out for it, it's bound to catch on, although the higher cost, limited stock-size availability, and added difficulty of manufacturing are holding BG-42's popularity back. BG-42 is somewhat similar to ATS-34, with two major differences: It has twice as much manganese as ATS-34, and has 1.2% vanadium (ATS-34 has no vanadium), so look for significantly better edge-holding than ATS-34. The addition of vanadium and the clean manufacturing process (VIM/VAR) also gives BG-42 better toughness than ATS-34. Chris Reeve has switched from ATS-34 to BG-42 in his Sebenzas.

S60V(CPM T440V) - S90V(CPM T420V)
Two steels that hold an edge superbly, world class type edge holding, but it can be difficult to get the edge there in the first place. These steels are made with Crucible's particle metallurgy process, and that process allows these steels to be packed with more alloying elements than traditional steel manufacturing methods would allow. Both steels are very high in vanadium, which accounts for their incredible wear resistance. Spyderco offers at least one model in CPM S60V. Spyderco, one major user of S60V, has cut back hardness down to 55-56Rc, in order to keep toughness acceptable, but that sacrifices strength so there is a tradeoff. S90V is CPM's follow-on to 440V, and with less chromium and almost double the vanadium, is more wear-resistant and tougher than S60V -- and, in fact, is probably more wear-resistant than any other stainless steel used in the cutlery industry. As such, S90V is in the running with steels like BG-42 as among the best general-purpose stainless steels; however, S90V is even more expensive and difficult to work than BG-42, so it's strictly in the realm of custom makers currently.

CPM S30V:
The newest stainless steel from Crucible, purpose-designed as a cutlery steel. This steel gives A2-class toughness and almost-S90V class wear resistance, at reasonable hardness (~59-60 Rc). This mix of attributes is making S30V one of the hottest stainless steels going, with makes such as Chris Reeve switching from BG-42 to S30V. Will this be the new king of general-purpose stainless cutlery steels? We'll know over the next couple of years.

400 Series Stainless
Before Cold Steel switched to AUS-8, many of their stainless products were marketed as being of "400 Series Stainless". Other knife companies are beginning to use the same term. What exactly *is* 400 Series Stainless? I always imagined it was 440-A, but there's nothing to keep a company from using any 4xx steel, like 420 or 425M, and calling it 400 Series Stainless.

Damascus steels are made by forge-welding two or more different metals (usually steels). The billets are heated and welded; to get an idea of the process, see Don Fogg's URL listed in the bibliography. The Damascus is then acid-etched. The different metals etch at different rates, and depth and color contrast are revealed.

Damascus can be made with performance and/or aesthetic objectives in mind. Aesthetically, the choice of materials is important. One shiny steel and one darker steel etch out to show the most striking pattern. If the maker is going more for beauty than performance, he might even go with nickel, which is bright but does not perform as well as steel for cutlery applications. The other factor affecting beauty is of course the welding pattern. Many patterns of Damascus are available today, from random to star to ladder, and a whole lot more.

ELEMENTS OF STEEL

At its most simple, steel is iron with carbon in it. Other alloys are added to make the steel perform differently. Here are the important steel alloys in alphabetical order, and some sample steels that contain those alloys:

Carbon: Present in all steels, it is the most important hardening element. Also increases the strength of the steel but, added in isolation, decreases toughness. We usually want knife-grade steel to have >.5% carbon, which makes it "high-carbon" steel.

Chromium: Added for wear resistance, hardenability, and (most importantly) for corrosion resistance. A steel with at least 13% chromium is typically deemed "stainless" steel, though another definition says the steel must have at least 11.5% *free* chromium (as opposed to being tied up in carbides) to be considered "stainless". Despite the name, all steel can rust if not maintained properly. Adding chromium in high amounts decreases toughness. Chromium is a carbide-former, which is why it increases wear resistance.

Manganese: An important element, manganese aids the grain structure, and contributes to hardenability. Also strength & wear resistance. Improves the steel (e.g., deoxidizes) during the steel's manufacturing (hot working and rolling). Present in most cutlery steel except for A2, L-6, and CPM 420V.

Molybdenum: A carbide former, prevents brittleness & maintains the steel's strength at high temperatures. Present in many steels, and air-hardening steels (e.g., A2, ATS-34) always have 1% or more molybdenum -- molybdenum is what gives those steels the ability to harden in air.

Nickel: Adds toughness. Present in L-6 and AUS-6 and AUS-8. Nickel is widely believed to play a role in corrosion resistance as well, but this is probably incorrect.

Phosphorus: Present in small amounts in most steels, phosphorus is a essentially a contaminant which reduces toughness.

Silicon: Contributes to strength. Like manganese, it makes the steel more sound while it's being manufactured.

Sulfur: Typically not desirable in cutlery steel, sulfur increases machinability but decreases toughness.

Tungsten: A carbide former, it increases wear resistance. When combined properly with chromium or molybdenum, tungsten will make the steel to be a high-speed steel. The high-speed steel M2 has a high amount of tungsten. The strongest carbide former behind vanadium.

Vanadium: Contributes to wear resistance and hardenability, and as a carbide former (in fact, vanadium carbides are the hardest carbides) it contribute to wear resistance. It also refines the grain of the steel, which contributes to toughness and allows the blade to take a very sharp edge. A number of steels have vanadium, but M2, Vascowear, and CPM T440V and 420V (in order of increasing amounts) have high amounts of vanadium. BG-42's biggest difference with ATS-34 is the addition of vanadium.

Edge holding

The ability of a blade to hold an edge. Many people make the mistake of thinking wear resistance and edge holding are the same thing. Most assuredly, it is not; or rather, it usually is not. Edge holding is job-specific. That is, edge holding is a function of wear resistance, strength, and toughness. But different jobs require different properties for edge holding. For example, cutting through cardboard (which often has hard embedded impurities), toughness becomes extremely important, because micro-chipping is often the reason for edge degradation. Whittling very hard wood, strength becomes very important for edge-holding, because the primary reason for edge degradation is edge rolling and impaction. Wear resistance becomes more important for edge holding when very abrasive materials, such as carpet, are being cut.

There are other properties that significantly effect how a steel performs:

Ability to take an edge:
Some steels just seem to take a much sharper edge than other steels, even if sharpened the exact same way. Finer-grained steels just seem to get scary sharp much more easily than coarse-grained steels, and this can definitely effect performance. Adding a bit of vanadium is an easy way to get a fine-grained steels. In addition, an objective of the forging process is to end up with a finer-grained steel. So both steel choice, and the way that steel is handled, can effect cutting performance.

Manufacturing process:
Cleaner, purer steels perform better than dirtier, impure steels. The cleaner steel will often be stronger and tougher, having less inclusions. High quality processes used to manufacture performance steel include the Argon/Oxygen/Decarburization (AOD) process, and for even purer steel, the Vacuum Induction Melting/Vacuum Arc Remelting (VIM/VAR) process, often referred to as double vacuum melting or vacuum re-melting.

Edge toothiness:
Some steels seem to cut aggressively even when razor polished. For these steels, even when they're polished for push-cutting, their carbides form a kind of "micro serrations" and slice aggressively.

Acesta este un accesoriu demontabil din plastic pentru mentinerea unghiului de ascutire; se regleaza in functie de unghiul dorit si de inaltimea pietrei. Aligner-ul se poate folosi pentru pietrele DMT sau orice alte pietre care se folosesc pe banc, eu personal il folosesc pe waterstone.
Initial ca toti incepatorii in ascutit cutite pe piatra problema principala este cum sa menti unghiul constant pe fiecare parte asa ca am incercat sa gasesc solutie cat mai simpla, dupa cateva cautari pe net am gasit aceasta solutie care initial nu prea imi spunea multe, dupa prima folosire pot sa spun ca sunt foarte multumit de el si chiar ajuta.

Desi este un cutit excelent pentru vanatoare, Bill Harsey a creat acest cutit cu lama fixa pentru a fi un excelenta alegere pentru toate activitatile din campare. acest cutit este in doua feluri cu fine edge sau serrated.

In sfarsit am luat un cutit care este full tang, de mult mi-am dorit asa ceva si in sfarsit il am. Dupa mai multe luni de cochetare cu ideea de a achizitiona acest cutit sau pe fratele lui cu lama zimtata, am ajuns la concluzia ca pe mine ma avantajeaza mai mult(sau am mai multa nevoie) de un cutit cu fine edge.
Desi in acest moment cand scriu postul cutitul l-am primit doar de doua zile si inca nu l-am testat inca in natura pot sa spun ca sunt foarte incantat de el, cu o lama care taie ca briciul (poti sa te barberesti cu el - ideea e sa nu exagerezi prea mult in jurul gatului sa nu cumva sa gresesti ...:))), un cutit care se simte excelent in mana, ergonomic (totdeauna, cand achizitionez un cutit de pe internet, pentru ca la noi in sibiu cred ca e doar un magazin care are cutie de genul asta - adica foarte putine; am un singura temere daca nu imi place cum se simte in mana - la acest cutit nu e cazul).
Sfat: Daca cumva vreti sa achizitionati un cutit pe care vreti sa cheltuiti o suma mai mare sau mai mica de bani si aveti posibilitatea de a vedea, lua in mana viitorul cutit nu ezitati sa faceti treaba asta, ar fi pacat sa dati bani pe un lucru care apoi sa va deranjeze ceva la el, in timpul utilizarii. Sper ca am fost destul de explicit...
Sa revenim ... Alt lucru care m-a impresionat la acest cutit este latimea lamei care mi se pare destul de mare undeva la 3 cm - media, o sa vedem in utilizarea efectiva daca este un lucru bun sau rau.

O chestie mai naspa este legata de teaca care are un sistem de prindere peste cutit, in researchu-rile mele pentru acest cutit am vazut o prezentare pe youtube in care respectivul spunea ca dupa mai multe utilizari s-ar putea sa ii tai sistemul de asigurare a cutitului in teaca, dar gasise si solutia, dupa ce am primit cutitul a fost printre primele lucruri pe care le-am verificat si avea dreptate asa ca am aplicat si solutia data de el fara sa imi mai fac griji. Daca vreti mai multe detalii e bine sa urmariti video-ul de mai jos.

Cu stima ... pana data viitoare ... probabil ca intre timp a sa mai completez ceva date la acest post.

Aveam nevoie de un cutit de toata ziua ... cu toate ca apreciez foarte mult Victorinox, ma deranja foarte mult ca nu au un clip lateral cu ajutorul caruia sa il agati la buzunarul pantalonilor, curea s.a.m.d.
Clipul din pct. meu de vedere te ajuta sa fixezi cutitul mai bine si este mai usor de 'accesat'.
Ca si calitate a taisului sunt super incantat de el.
Cateva zile m-am chinuit sa-l manevrez ... deschidere/inchidere... shi a inceput sa-mi iasa din ce in ce mai bine.

I am extremely happy with the product. I am a complete novice at sharpening knives manually and this put a very keen edge on my knives in a very little while. I did not use a honing guide, I did it manually, so the knives arent "stupid sharp" but that is due to the operator. Watch the videos below from experts on the blog to see how the experts do it.

Ro:Daca nu ai incercat niciodata sa ascuti cu pietre de apa inainte, atunci vei fi foarte incantat de rezultat.
Sunt super incantat de acest produs. Sunt un biet incepator in ascutitul cutitelor manual dar acesta piatra ma ajutat sa-mi ascut cutitele mele din colectie intr-un timp foarte scurt. Nu am folosit un sistem de ghidare, am facut manual, asa ca cutitele nu sunt "extraordinar de ascutite" dar asta tine de utilizator, in timp o sa ma perfectionez. Uitate la video din postarile anterioare si o sa vezi cum se ascut profesionistii.

Eu pe langa aceasta piatra mi-am mai cumparat si o piatra Nagura - prin a frecarea de fata cu granulatie 6000 se obtine o pasata care ajuta la ascutit - o sa intelegeti mai bine daca va uitati la filmulet ;).

!!! Daca nu ati mai folosit stilul asta de ascutit vedeti ca sunt niste etape pe care trebuie sa le urmati.

Din lipsa unei pietre de ascutit pe teren, m-am gandit ca ar fi bine sa imi cumpar o piatra diamantata pe care sa o port cu mine, asa ca am ales Diamond Sharpener 46F care are o granulatie (grit) fina de 600. Chestia draguta la aceasta piatra este, pentru cei interesati, ca poti sa ascuti pe santul din mijloc si acele de pescuit (eu insa nu ma prea omor cu 'sportul asta' :))
Cred ca cu ea am sa pot sa ascut si toporul dar inca nu am incercat, din ce am mai cautat eu pe net nu vad de ce nu ar merge.
Aceasta imi acopera momentan necesitatiile, dar in viitorul apropiat am sa imi mai achizitionez o piatra pentru acasa care sa aiba 1000/6000 grit, cu care sa imi intretin cat mai bine cutitele.
Dupa ce o sa o folosesc de mai multe ori o sa mai completez postul ... dar deocamdata cam atat.

Pentru inceput vreau sa spun, ca este prima si ultima data cand imi voi da cu parerea despre un magazin online de la care achizitionez cutite...scopul acestui blog nu este de a promova magazinele online ci de a va prezenta cat multe informatii utile despre cutite - atat.

Cu toate ca nu am vrut treaba asta, trebuie sa va impartasesc cu regret ca nu toate magazinele online de cutite sunt de incredere, eu am patit-o cu cei de la neramo si sincer imi doresc doresc sa nu patiti si voi ... poate am fost eu mai "ghinionist".

Acestea le-am urmarit de mult timp, preturi bune, zic poate au lichidare de stoc, oferte speciale ... alea alea ... nu pierd ocazia.....si intr-un final comanda ... dupa cum se poate observa in mailul de confirmare eliberat de societatea Neramo, care iti spune mare si tare Neramo "Onoreaza Comanda" si la starea comanda "Pending" ("In asteptare") ... starea acestei comenzi este tot asa si in momentul de fata si probabil si in viitor.

Va dati seama ca nu am stat cu minile in san si am incercat in tot acest timp sa incerc sa vad in ce stadiu este comanda mea prin mail-uri, convorbiri telefonice cu vreo 5 persoane din aceasta societate de la director in jos, cu explicatii care de care mai bizare cum ca ar fi fost o problema cu preturile de pe site(preturile de pe site sunt postate de dvs nu de mine asa ca asumati-va responsabilitatea, daca ati gresit postati pe site o erata, ceva, niste scuze), ca de fapt preturile lor sunt altele, ca imi fac o reducere semnificativa (care era de fapt 2 x valoarea comenzii), baliverne ....

Asa ca m-am resemnat, nu am sa mai comand de la Neramo(www.totalmag.ro) le transmit doar ca daca vor continua in stilul asta le prevad un viitor sumbru.

Suparat, necajit, am facut comanda la alt magazin online de cutite si accesorii, care surpriza mare, mi-au trimis comanda a doua zi (deci se poate...asa se fac afacerile ... asta pentru domnii de la Neramo ... poate mai invatati si voi ceva) acestia sunt cei de la .... pe aceasta cale le multumesc pentru promtitudine.

Pentru cei care inca sunteti interesati sa cumparati de la Neramo va doresc mult succes(sincer - poate am avut eu ghinion)

P.S.: Pentru cei de la Neramo, nu va faceti griji pentru reclama negativa deoarece si acesta poate fi la fel de eficienta ca si cea pozitiva, asta in cazul in care nu stiati.

Cutitul in istoria sa ce dateaza de mai bine de 2,5 milioane ani, a fost folosit pentru mai multe scopuri: arma de vanatoare, unealta de taiat si unealta de mancat.
De atunci pana in prezent cutitul a fost facut din mai multe materiale incepand cu bucati din piatra tare, cremene, obsidian (roca vulcanica, amorfa, sticloasa), oase; si mai apoi din cupru, bronz si fier; cele moderne la care se folosesc aliaje de otel, fibra de carbon, ceramica si titan.

Sunt 2 categorii de cutite: cutite cu lama fixa(fixed blade) si bricegele(folding knife)

Folding knife-ul nu este acelasi lucru cu pocket knife-ul, poate pentru multi este, dar sunt ceva diferente, pe care vi le prezint:

Folding Knife - este in general mai mare decat pocket knife-ul, poate fi folosit la pentru munci un pic mai grele, ele avand in general un mecanism de blocare a lamei cand este deschis, acest mecanism ajuta pentru prevenirea inchiderii accidentale in timpul utilizari. Acesta in general este purtat in teaca, fiind in general mai greu decat pocket knife-ul. In general are doar o lama.

Folding Knife:

Pocket knife - este in general un cutit usor in greutate, cu dimensiuni destul de mici pentru a incapea in buzunar, acesta fiind folosit mai mult pentru sarcini usoare. De obicei nu are doar o singura lama fiind insotit in general si de alte unelte (surubelinta, penseta, scobitoare, inclusiv furculita si lingura).

At the age of thirty, he became one of the handful of knife makers to join the Knifemakers Guild. He ended up serving two terms as the guild’s president.

His Legacy Series of four 18k gold knives includes the most expensive modern knife in the world—Gem of the Orient. Designed for a Japanese customer, the knife’s jade and gold filigree handle is encrusted with 153 emeralds (10 carats) and nine diamonds (5 carats). In all, the knife was made with 28 ounces of gold. Supposedly, it took Warenski 10 years to make.

A bushcraft knife, also known as survival knife, is used for many wilderness tasks such as cutting rope and other materials, cutting tree branches, carving wood or skinning game. The wide variety of tasks it can do is vital as many outdoorsmen can't afford to be burdened by extra tools.

The words bushcraft knife and survival knife are used interchangeably. Some say a bushcraft knife is designed for a situation where the possessor has intentionally attempted to do wilderness tasks, whereas a survival knife is designed for something like an unintentional, emergency situation. In reality, however, this distinction is basically nonexistent and most makers do not distinguish between them.

Making matters even more complicated, these blades are also named "wilderness" knives or "camping" knives.

"Batoning" is one job that survival blades accomplish well however bushcraft blades do not. Batoning is to apply your knife to hack away larger branches. The user places the cutting instrument atop the branch and slams it into the branch by hammering on the blade's spine.

Blades

Survival knife cutting edges usually be around four inches in length. People with a larger palm may prefer a longer blade, though a blade greater than than five inches is not typically recommended.

Higher quality blades usually feature a full or a hidden tang. The full-tang knife sports a blade that runs the complete breadth and depth of the instrument and is often visible on the borders of the handle. The hidden-tang knife covers the full length of the knife as well, however it narrows as it enters the handle and is completely hidden by a grip.

Stainless steel and carbon steel are the two predominant types of steel used to produce a bushcraft knife. One advantage to using stainless steel is that this material won't corrode when it's damp. Blades constructed from carbon steel keep a keen edge over time and are easier to resharpen.

The blades may be serrated or not. Fully serrated blades aren't suggested because they can be nearly to impossible to sharpen. But you may encounter a knife that is only partly serrated while the rest is not.

A2 and VG-10 are both widely-available, top-of-the-line carbon steels, while 440C and AUS8 are frequently-encountered high-end stainless steels.

Handles

Survival knife handles usually don't sport protection for your hands. This is because they are not intended to be used in a sawing movement, but instead for of the vertical movement of cutting and slicing.

Hollow handles with screw-off end caps can double as storage containers but are typically weaker than non-hollow handles so are not suggested.

Complementary Knives

While versatile, these knives are not intended to serve as "utility tools". Tasks which require twisting, wrenching, or screwing, for example, are inappropriate for this type of knife. A multi-tool is a superior option for such tasks and makes a perfect companion to a bushcraft knife.

For jobs that require a longer knife, a machete or ax would be a better knife.

VICTORINOX garanteaza cutitele pe viata, pentru orice defect de material sau productie.

Il recomand mai ales pentru cei care vor sa aiba un briceag pe termen lung.
Materialul folosit pentru manerul acestui multitool, din cate stiu eu, este "rezistent la acid".
Materialul folosit pentru acest cutit este accelasi otel folosit pentru instrumentele de taiat chirurgicale (iti da de gandit , nu? :)))).

Ce are si parerea mea:
1. Lama blocabila mare - Lama este blocabila cu sistemul 'slide button lock' , tais foarte bun, obisnuit pentru Victorinox, fiind posesor si in trecut de bricege Victorinox, ceea ce m-a uimit pe mine la acestea este faptul ca si dupa foarte multe utilizari cutitele taie mai mult decat decent si au o durabilitae in timp foarte buna.
2. Tirbuson - decent, isi face treaba
3. Inel chei - Bun
4. Penseta - Ok, obisnuit pentru Victorinox
5. Scobitoare - Ok, nu e buna doar la scobit in dinti ;)

Un briceag bun pentru purtat toata ziua in buzunar, avantaj lama mare (pentru unii poate fi un dezavantaj)
Singurul lucru care nu imi place la cutitele Victorinox in special la acesta si in general la toate cele cu putine functii, este ca nu au un clip lateral cu care sa il prinzi de pantaloni. Am vazut ca Wenger au inceput sa il introduca la cutitele lor, de exemplu pe Ranger 151(http://www.oregonknifeshop.com /geswarra151.html)

Lama blocabila mare - Lama este blocabila cu sistemul 'liner lock' (Victorinox mai foloseste un sistem care se numeste slide button look - pe Alpineer pe care il voi prezenta data viitoare), tais foarte bun, obisnuit pentru Victorinox, fiind posesor si in trecut de bricege Victorinox, ceea ce m-a uimit pe mine la acestea este faptul ca si dupa foarte multe utilizari cutitele taie mai mult decat decent si au o durabilitae in timp foarte buna.

3. Deschizator de conserve - bun, ajuta, la camping este excelent
4. Surubelnita mica - am folosit-o la lucrari in care surubelnitele normale nu o puteau face
5. Deschizator de capace - decent
6. Surubelnita - decent
7. Dezizolator - inca nu am avut ocazia sa o folosesc dar mi se pare util pe un astfel de briceag
8. Gauritor - l-am folosit la cioplit lemn si e bun, oricum este destinat cusutului dar imaginatia poate zbura
9. Inel chei - foarte bun, eu mi-am achizitionat si un lant de la Victorinox pe care il folosesc in momentul cand fac o iesire, fara a imi face probleme ca imi cade din buzunar.
10. Penseta - un instrument normal pentru Victorinox, foarte util
11. Scobitoare - un instrument normal pentru Victorinox, poate cel mai util :), si asta nu doar pentru scobit in dinti.
12. Fierastrau - foarte bun mai ales pentru iesirile in natura, taie excelent, sunt foarte multumit de el

Singurul dezavantaj la acest briceag este din punctul meu de vedere greutatea - un lucru destul de normal pentru bricegele multifuncionale, dar asta nu ma impidica sa-l iau cu mine la fiecare iesire, in combinatie cu un cutit cu lama fixa cum ar fi Mora 2000.

Acest cutit este distribuit scolilor de supravietuire si este recomandat pentru cei care vor sa se initieze in "practicile bushcraft-ului" fiind un cutit foarte bun pentru cioplit. Ray Mears, realizator de emisiuni despre Bushcraft, il recomanda.
Acest cutit este in mai multe culori Rosu-Negru, Albastru-Negru.
Parerea mea:
Este un cutit extraordinar pentru cat costa, mie imi place foarte mult, folosindu-l si la cioplit lemn, impresionandu-ma atat taisul cat si prinderea foarte buna pe maner, care de altfel nu iti provoaca disconfort in utilizare chiar daca este din cauciuc.

Ceea ce este de sesizat si la cutitul Frost Clipper 860 (sau Mora - nu va ingrijorati pentru ca este acelasi lucru - intr-o postare viitoare o sa explic legatura intre Frost- Mora; Victoreinox - Wenger), cat si la cutitul Mora Outdoor 2000 este, ca lama nu nu ajunge pana in capatul manerului, din cate m-am documentat eu, ea ajunge doar la jumatatea manerului, asa ca nu va recomand sa loviti de foarte multe ori in coada manerului, pentru ca s-ar putea sa aveti surprize.

Un alt punct slab la acest cutit este prinderea in teaca, care depinde de materialul plastic din care e facuta, ceea ce va duce dupa utilizarea lui multipla sa se slabeasca si sa nu mai stea fix cutitul. Acest lucru mi s-a intamplat dar am gasit o rezolvare destul de simpla pe care o sa v-o prezint mai incolo.

Manerul cu toate ca nu este un maner din lemn sau corn, pentru multi colectionari asta probabil ca ii face sa nu-l ia in seama, este un maner cu o prindere foarte buna inclusiv atunci cand este ud si se simte foarte bine la mana.

Acest cutit poate fi folosit foarte bine la toate iesirile in natura.

Eu momentan in topul meu il clasez pe primul loc in colectia mea.

Cei de la Mora au scos si un alt model, cred ca se numeste Mora 2000 Neverlost Edition care practic este acelasi lucru doar ca i-au schimbat culoarea intr-o culoare florescenta. E interesanta gandirea celor de la Mora dar parerea mea este ca ii da un aspect de jucarie si nu l-as cumpara.
